Pregnant Mother and Baby Die In Accident

People in Lima have feared that a combi, a local term referring to Lima's small vans that act as buses for the masses, would eventually kill someone. That fear has come true as three pedestrians were hit when the combi climbed on the sidewalk. Two pedestrians died immediately and the third who was 5 months pregnant died in hospital and unfortunately so did her unborn child.

Crew Not Trained to Fly At Night

After two 14 hour days of training before the flight the crew was totally exhausted when there was a collision that killed Ecuador's first female defense minister nine days after she took office. It has been determined the crash was caused by "human error" Her 17 year old daughter and five military officers were also killed when two helicopters collided.

Steel company workers strike over safety

The strike at at Siderúrgica del Orinoco is in its third week. Sidor is Latin America’s largest steel company with 4,500 direct employees and 7,000 contract workers. As the workforce there has gone from union to contract the number of accidents have increased tremendously. Safety is one of the bigger reasons behind the strike.

Canadian Tourist's Body Found

A Canadian tourist who disappeared a month ago cycling on the infamous "Death Road" has been found 490 feet down a cliff off the road. Simon Bolly, 23, was cycling along "Death Road" and it is believe to be an accident a search for clues on whether it was a crime or not is being conducted.

Many accidents at refinery

on July 17, 2006, a fire caused the fifth closing of a crude oil distillation unit of Amuay refinery, located in Paraguaná Refining Compound. This fire came less than a week after two other reported major accidents at Paraguaná Refining Compound. As of July 2006, five accidents had been reported at Paraguaná Refining Compound that left three dead and another five injured.
