Financial problems face Chile's private healthcare

Chile’s Health Superintendent ordered Isapres to pay back US$1.5 million to customers, after an audit showed it have overcharged customers this amount during 2006. This came only 3 months after recruiting former finance minister Eduardo Aninat to iron out Chile’s private healthcare system.

President tells Brazilians to respect women

Obesity An Epidemic

Despite promising to reduce obesity from 16 percent in 2000 to 12 percent by 2010 Chile's government has done little to make this happen. At the moment 3.4 million Chileans suffer from obesity and it is predicted to rise to four million by 2010. It has become an "epidemic" with 22 percent of Chile's population classified as obese.

General Comptroller Denounced Using Out Dated Insecticides

In 2005 the National Service for the Eradication of Malaria used ten thousand liters of Permetrina which at expired two years before. This was used to supposedly eliminate the breeding grounds of the mosquito which transmits the dengue. The press claims Government strategy has been total failure.
