Doctors question “Transplant Tourism” in ColombiaTopics: • medical •
Colombia-based Organ Transplant Services offers a kidney transplant package that costs $80,000, plus a returnable $30,000 deposit. The liver transplant package costs $100,000, plus a $40,000 deposit. The deposit is required to pay for any unforeseen complications, Galvis said. The company does not accept insurance coverage. But doctors are skeptical as there is little or no oversight and potentially exploitive because living organ donors might be paid and recipients might know little about the donor's health.
