In Jamaica genetically altering pigs has been supplying the pork that is needed to put on the shelves. But the buyers don't know that what they're buying has been altered. Would the labeling make a difference? The food is safe. Newport Genetics Limited has been using this particular science to breed pigs for years. Why start labeling now?

It's the sugar!

Mothers everywhere have always known what happens to children on a sugar high. For a while science tried to convince them that there was no link. Now John Hoebel, a psychologist at Princeton University, along with a team of physiologists from the University of the Andes in Venezuela, have shown that rats eating a 25% sugar diet go through withdrawals similar to those in people withdrawing from morphine or nicotine.

Vast new Chachapoya ruin complex discovered

The huge complex called Huaca La Penitenciaria or Penitentiary Ruins , is apparently built in the Inca architectural style but has artwork and friezes that are distinctly Chachapoya. This leads scientists to believe that these ruins may shed light on the relationship between the Chachapoya and the Inca. It’s location and elevation suggest that it may have been built by forced Chachapoya labor under the rule of the Inca – who are thought to have wiped out the Chachapoya society.

Logo and slogan contest for golden National Day

"Keranamu Malaysia” has been the slogan for the last six years. The 50th National Day slogan is “Malaysia Gemilang”. The government has invited all Malaysians to participate in the contest to create a new logo and slogan along the lines of “Malaysia Gemilang”. The details of the contest will be announced in newspapers as well as TV and radio later this week.

Egg sales drop due to cancer scare

Chicken and duck egg sales dropped radically on Monday. The department of science and technology in Ho Chi Minh City reported that large amounts of a carcinogenic had been found in sample batches. Several of the eggs tested contained 12,000 micrograms of sudan and any amount over 500 is unsafe.
