Off on a tour of the Gran Sabana we discovered amazing sites, including gold and quartz mines, where young men worked at machines in the baking heat. Our travels took us through incredibly varied topography, through dense cloud forests with amazing waterfalls and exotic bird life.

A railway line was completed back in 1855, but was out of commission for many years, however six years a new passenger service on a modest scale resumed. A single train, luxuriously outfitted, travels from Panama City to Colon in the morning and returns in the evening. Travel time is 57 minutes - the quickest way to get from one ocean to the other.
