Oregon woman helping San Javier cook solar

Tara Moomey, who is now in her scond year as a Peace Corp volunteer is working on building solar ovens for the women of San Javier. Cooking with wood is difficult as it is scarce and expensive and indoor hearths are causing repiratory problems from the soot and ash. So she's downloaded plans from the internet and is working to build simple solar ovens with common materials like cardboard, and also collecting recipes to use in the ovens.

Laptop project puts computers in students' hands

The One Laptop Per Child project includes getting $150 computers into the hands of students in Thailand, Libya and other developing countries in 2007. The computer, called the XO machine, will more than likely be the first computer most of these students have ever seen. Therefore, it will be more intuitive for the children. By July or thereabouts, several million XO machines should reach Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Nigeria, Libya, Pakistan, Thailand and the Palestinian territory. Within the next two weeks three more African countries could sign on for computers.

Humanitarian Mission to Costa Rica Changes Life

Ryan Bell who went on a humanitarian mission to Costa Rica a few years ago is now packing his bags for Uganda. He is hoping to raise $7,000 to pay for the trip. Ryan is from Ponoka, Canada.
