The Philippines goes above and beyond to protect and preserve its wildlife. The Philippines ranks eighth on endangered mammals, and third on threatened birds, out of 25 global hotspots. But having 44 percent of its bird species and 64 percent of its mammals be unique to the country attracts a criminal element that wants to capitalize on it for themselves. Combine that with the flak that Philippine officials get for trying to enforce their laws and it's a very difficult situation.

Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is going to take care of Vietnam's animals and plants. The Ministry has created an agency to carry out the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. As a convention member CITES will manage the trade and breeding of plants and wild animals.

The Dominican Republic and the United States have entered into the first sister sanctuary agreement protecting a migratory marine mammal on both ends of it's migration. This conservation program will protect some 900 humpback whales.

Customs in Vietnam seize smuggled wildlifeTopics: • wildlife •
ON Wednesday, January 24, Vietnamese customs officers seized five tons of turtles and two tons of wild snakes. The bill of lading labeled the shipment as domestically grown frogs imported from Thailand. The animals were on their way to China where they would likely be served as delicacies.
