The President and the Minister of Enviroment and Energy have signed and Executive Decree to create a Biological Corridor known as Path of the Macaws in the town of Puriscal. The purpose of this environmentally safe area is to preserve the flora and the fauna as weel as the rare species of birds in the area.

Rare bird has new brand of coffeeTopics: • wildlife •
A number of organizations have come together in a project to protect the rare Cerulean Warbler. They are producing a brand of coffee from the beans grown on the plantations where the bird winters over. Proceeds from the sale of the coffee will be used to protect the habitat and keep those plantations from being converted to other coffees or cash crops like timber.

On June 10 a hearing will ensue with respect to two lawsuits filed by a coalition of environmental and business groups to solve the destiny of the Belize Dam in Macal River Valley. This area is home to one of the largest jaguar populations in Central America and the only known nesting site for the scarlet macaw and shelters tapirs as well as many other endangered species. Robert F. Kennedy stated that it is "globalization at its worst."

Lima's Pucllana ruins home to the Peruvian Hairless dogTopics: • wildlife •
The Huaca Pucllana archaeological project in Lima has become a sanctaury for dogs. As recently as just a few years ago the breed was in danger of becoming extinct, due to factors that included hunting by locals. So after a 1989 initiative, the government decided to safeguard the dogs by ordering that archaelogical sites along the coast have at least one pair in residence. This sparked a resurgence in breeding and in export of Peru's only world registered breed.
